Carina Claassens werkt al meer dan twintig jaar als kunstenaar en visual designer. Haar keramisch werk vindt zijn oorsprong in vormende herinneringen aan het Zuidelijk-Afrikaanse landschap — de texturen, ritmes en stiltes. Die verbondenheid met plaats blijft centraal staan in haar praktijk, ook wanneer zij werkt vanuit haar huidige studio, Clay Café Nederland | Carina Claassens Ceramic Centre in Haarlo, waar bezoekers haar sculpturale en functionele werk van dichtbij kunnen ervaren.
Claassens’ benadering van keramiek is tactiel en doordacht. Het oppervlak van elk werk wordt gevormd door herinnering en politieke bewustwording, in het bijzonder haar voortdurende betrokkenheid bij feminisme — niet als thema, maar als geleefde praktijk. Haar objecten dragen vaak zowel kwetsbaarheid als weerstand in zich, en bevatten verhalen die evenzeer worden gevoeld als gezien.
Docent Draaischijf
Sandra is een studio potter in Azewijn.
Zij maakt haar werk, gebruikskeramiek in kleine series en unicaten, voornamelijk aan de draaischijf. Daarnaast werkt zij aan reconstructies van bouwkeramiek voor restauraties van historische gebouwen.
Hier staat het glazuuronderzoek voorop.
Zij heeft haar ambachtelijke opleiding gevolgd bij de SBB in Gouda (nu Nederlandse Keramiekopleiding) en bij Rob Muylaert in Bontebrug.
Julia van Eijden
Julia is een Docent Keramiek (Draaischijf) bij CCCC. Julia is werkzaam als kunstenaar met focus op klei in Enschede. Ze heeft een voorliefde voor draaien, maar combineert dat ook graag met handbouwen en sculpturen. Julia heeft aan de AKI in Enschede Fine Art Sculpture gestudeerd en heeft daar haar focus gelegd op keramiek. Bij de internationale school voor keramiek “La Meridiana” in Italië is ze opgeleid tot pottenbakker. Koreaanse pottenbakkerij is haar grote inspiratiebron.
Docent Draaishcijf. Dorian woont en werkt in Lichtenvoorde.
Ze heeft Sculpture gestudeerd aan de kunstacademie ArtEZ in Enschede (2014). Sinds 2019 is ze zich gaan focussen op keramiek en pottenbakken. Dorian maakt vooral servies in kleine oplage en kleine objecten van verschillende materialen.
Tijdens haar reizen (Groot-Brittannië) gaat ze graag naar de oude pottenbakkerijen zoals Leach en Winchcombe voor de ambacht, puurheid en de glazuren om zich te laten inspireren.
Naast haar autonome werk, ook werkzaam als kunstenaar/cultureel werker in het speciaal onderwijs en voor zorginstellingen. Waar mijn passie voor kunst en het bevorderen van herstel samenkomt.

We are located on a small ‘Woonboerderij’ farm in the beautiful Achterhoek. We provide Ceramic/Pottery workshops for children, adults, families, groups of friends and businesses. We pride ourselves in creating a safe and inspirational space to work with the medium clay.

'Our Story'
In 2019 we made a drastic move and bought a 'Woonboerderij', a small farm in the beautiful Achterhoek. We opened the doors to Clay Cafe NL: Achterhoek on the 6 Sep 2019. Clay Cafe Nl was first based in Zaandam, Hembrugterrein before our move to the Achterhoek and we have not looked back! But teaching started long before in Mozambique at the American International School of Maputo. Where I gave ceramic classes in school, after school and in the evenings to adults.
'Our Vision'
When we bought the farm, we had a vision. Not only to have the Clay Cafe Studio to teach and share our passion for ceramics and fine arts but also to create a creative space for people to come together. Studio & Gallery: We renovated a beautiful old barn to become a light and airy space. It had to be functual for creating my own ceramics, and teaching workshops & courses. But also have the wall & floor space to have group and solo exhibitions. We pride ourselves with our collections of art. Two of our artists in our permanent collection have exhibited at the Venice Biennale.
Guesthouse, Pottery Retreats: We are currently renovating our -to be guesthouse, so that we will also be able to host art & ceramic ‘pottery’ retreats. What an adventure this has been! We sure learned a lot about building and renovating this past year.
Exchange Program: With my own background in Artistic Directing it is not a far jump to understand that we are setting up knowledge exchange programs between the Netherlands and South African Universities, inviting 3rd and 4th year students to visit and stay with us, in this way experiencing a different country and seeing how ceramic studio’s and institutions are setup in the Netherlands and also learn new techniques. Sculpture Garden
Sculptural Garden: We have started the landscaping of 2000sqm, by hand sowing wild flowers, that will both breathe new life into the soil and sustain it’s fauna & flora. Within this wildflower pasture we have made a maze for you to explore. In spring/summer 2020 we will start to place and make sculptures that will adorn this space.
